Whether you’re a first-time installer or a homeowner looking to better understand what goes on behind the scenes, following a clear heat pump installation checklist ensures optimal performance, energy efficiency, and long-term reliability. At Tongyi Heat Pump, we believe that great products deserve great setups. Here’s what you should always check—before, during, and after installation.

1. Pre-Installation Site Assessment

Before anything else, start with a site evaluation. A poor location can reduce efficiency by up to 30%.

  • Ensure clear airflow around outdoor unit (at least 30 cm from walls).
  • Avoid direct sunlight or areas with heavy snow accumulation.
  • Confirm drainage possibilities and protection from wind.
  • Indoor space: wall or floor space available for buffer tank, if required.

2. Electrical Requirements

Check that your electrical setup matches the unit’s specification:

  • Correct voltage and phase (especially for R290 units).
  • Dedicated circuit breaker and RCD protection.
  • Proper cable thickness (check Tongyi’s manual for each model).
  • Power-on delay and surge protection recommended.

3. Refrigerant Safety and Piping (R290 Units)

For R290 (propane) units:

  • Use certified, gas-tight copper piping.
  • Ensure correct pipe insulation to avoid condensation or heat loss.
  • Perform a pressure test and leak test using nitrogen and soap spray.

4. Hydraulic Circuit Connections

Key installation points:

  • Connect to buffer tank, expansion vessel, and 3-way valve if needed.
  • Bleed air from all circuits before startup.
  • Use corrosion-resistant materials in mixed-metal systems.
  • Test the flow rate (minimum flow required per model).

5. Smart Controls and Commissioning

Tongyi’s R290 units come with built-in smart control features:

  • Connect to the IoT platform or smart thermostat.
  • Configure “holiday mode,” “double zone control,” and “floor dry-up” modes if available.
  • Run a full commissioning cycle: heating and cooling test.
  • Save system settings and provide user instructions.

6. Final User Education

A well-informed user = long product life.

  • Explain maintenance tasks like filter cleaning and app use.
  • Demonstrate how to set comfort temperatures and energy-saving modes.
  • Provide a physical or digital manual + warranty registration.

📦 Tongyi Tip: Document Every Step

For warranty and service purposes, always document installation steps, photos of setup, and commissioning parameters. Tongyi-certified installers can upload reports directly through our service app.

Why It Matters

A reliable heat pump installation checklist ensures safety, maximizes efficiency, and reduces callbacks for installers. For homeowners, it provides peace of mind knowing their system is set up to perform at its best.
