Choosing the right location for your air-to-water heat pump isn’t just about convenience — it’s about performance, longevity, and comfort.
🏡 Outdoor Unit Placement: Keep It Breezy
For optimal airflow and quiet operation, here’s what you need to keep in mind when installing the outdoor unit:
- Wall clearance: Leave at least 30–50 cm behind the unit and 1 meter in front for unobstructed airflow.
- Side clearance: Keep at least 30 cm on each side.
- Above the unit: Avoid placing it under balconies or enclosed awnings unless there’s good vertical clearance (ideally 1.5 meters or more).
- Stable ground: Install it on a solid, level surface (e.g., concrete base or wall brackets) to avoid vibrations and noise.
- No obstacles: Don’t place it near shrubs, fences, or corners that can block air intake or exhaust.
💡 Pro tip: Avoid placing the unit where snow or leaves can accumulate in winter and autumn.

🏠 Indoor Unit & Buffer Tank: Accessibility First
When planning the indoor components (like the hydraulic module or buffer tank), make sure there’s:
- Easy access for maintenance (valves, controller, filters).
- Proper ventilation if required.
- Distance from noise-sensitive rooms (like bedrooms) — although our Tongyi R290 units are impressively quiet!
🔇 Keep It Quiet — For You and the Neighbors
Our R290 models are engineered for low noise levels — as low as 46 dB(A) at 1 meter — but location still matters:
- Install away from bedroom windows.
- Consider using acoustic barriers or enclosures if in a noise-sensitive area.
