On October 10, 2024, Tongyi Heat Pumps participated in the 7th Annual Conference of the Ireland-China Science and Technology Association (ICSATA) in Cork, Ireland.
The event brought together nearly 100 representatives from government, diplomacy, academia, and industry. Among the attendees were Cork County Mayor Joe Carroll, Cork City Mayor Dan Boyle, Dr. Obren O’Brien, Irish Ambassador to China, Ms. Huang Manyuan, Second Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland, and Michael Loftus, Vice President of Munster Technological University.
Hosted by ICSATA President Chen Wen, the conference focused on the theme “Green Energy – A Sustainable Shared Future.” It explored international cooperation in sustainable energy development and climate action. The event received support from Cork County and City Governments, the Chinese and Irish Embassies, and Munster Technological University.
In his address, Cork County Mayor Joe Carroll highlighted the importance of renewable energy in Ireland’s national climate strategy. He explained that Cork County is working toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2030, in line with Ireland’s broader objective of generating 80% of its electricity from renewable sources.
Cork City Mayor Dan Boyle spoke about Cork’s strong relationships with Chinese cities, including Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, and Wuxi. He noted that Cork and Shanghai, the first sister cities between Ireland and China, would celebrate the 20th anniversary of their partnership in 2025. He also emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in areas such as green energy and sustainable development.
Speaking via video, Dr. Obren O’Brien marked the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ireland and China. He praised the growing ties between the two countries, supported in part by Ireland’s visa-free policy for Chinese citizens. He also recognized China’s role in developing the world’s largest clean energy network and its contribution to global climate solutions.
The morning session of the green energy conference featured experts from Ireland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain, and China, including representatives from Huawei. Discussions covered the European photovoltaic and energy storage sectors, current market challenges, and future opportunities. More than 50 guests took part in the session, reinforcing the conference’s role as a valuable platform for advancing the transition to sustainable energy.
