On October 10, 2024, Tongyi Heat Pumps took part in the 7th Annual Conference of the Ireland-China Science and Technology Association (ICSATA) in Cork, Ireland. This important event brought together nearly 100 key figures, including Cork County Mayor Joe Carroll, Cork City Mayor Dan Boyle, Dr. Obren O’Brien (Irish Ambassador to China), Ms. Huang Manyuan (Second Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland), and Michael Loftus (Vice President of Munster Technological University).

The conference, hosted by ICSATA President Chen Wen, focused on the theme “Green Energy – A Sustainable Shared Future.” It highlighted global efforts toward sustainable energy development and climate action, with support from the Cork County and City Governments, the Chinese and Irish Embassies, and Munster Technological University.

In his address, Cork County Mayor Joe Carroll emphasized the alignment of renewable energy development with Ireland’s national climate change strategy. He pointed out that Cork County is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2030, reflecting the national goal of sourcing 80% of electricity from renewable energy.

Cork City Mayor Dan Boyle highlighted Cork’s close ties with Chinese cities such as Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, and Wuxi. He noted that Cork and Shanghai, Ireland and China’s first sister cities, will celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2025. Boyle also emphasized ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation, especially in green energy.

Dr. Obren O’Brien, speaking via video, noted the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ireland and China. He praised the strong ties between the two nations, supported by Ireland’s recent visa-free policy for Chinese citizens. He also recognized China’s leadership in building the world’s largest clean energy network, contributing significantly to global climate change solutions..

The conference’s morning session featured experts from Ireland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain, and China (represented by Huawei), who discussed key topics such as the European photovoltaic and energy storage industry, challenges, and future opportunities. Over 50 guests participated in insightful discussions about the green energy transition.
